Tip From Veronica Henry

Don't drive yourself mad analysing what is out there on the shelves already, or trying to spot the next trend, or trying to emulate your favourite author. Write the very book you would love to read, in your own voice. The moment you start to trying to recreate an already successful formula, your idea will become stale and contrived. Give yourself freedom to run wild with your words and ideas. You are much more likely to come up with something unique in this way. In other words, have confidence and trust yourself. And enjoy it. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. This will come through in your writing more than anything.

Veronica Henry worked as a scriptwriter for THE ARCHERS, HEARTBEAT and HOLBY CITY amongst many others, before turning to fiction. Her fourth novel, AN ELIGIBLE BACHELOR, was shortlisted for the RNA NOVEL OF THE YEAR AWARD 2006.
