Further Writing Competition July 2011

If you are a writer who has written a novel opening anytime before 31st July 2011, The Next Big Author Competition and associated site youwriteon.com are running another initiative for novel writers in July 2011 with feedback from Random House and Orion, the publishers of Dan Brown and Terry Pratchett. The Top Ten highest rated authors of opening chapters between 5,000 to 7,000 words - written prior to 31st July 2011 - will be read by and receive feedback from Random House and Orion. Both publishers have been participating on youwriteon.com for several years. See the competition rules for this further competition below.

Members who have developed on youwriteon.com have as a direct result been taken on and received large publishing deals with publishers including Penguin, Random House, Hodder and Stoughton, Orion, Little Brown, and Harper Collins.

Writing Competition July 2011 - Competition Rules - Free to enter

1) You can enter the competition with opening chapters of any novel genre, between 5,000 to 7,000 words written prior to 31st July 2011. The opening chapters can be from a complete or incomplete book. You retain the copyright to your creative work at all times.  Members of all countries can enter the competition.

2) Register with TheNextBigAuthor.com and Upload your opening chapters between 17th July and 31st July 2011 to Arts Council funded youwriteon.com. Join the youwriteon.com site, and the site will take entrants through the steps to upload opening chapters on site in an automated process, including entering story title, synopsis and pasting opening chapters online. Allow good time before the end of 31st July 2011 to upload your chapters to youwriteon.com. Stories that are eligible will be identified on youwriteon.com by the date of upload which all stories are given when uploaded.

3) During August 2011, you should then exchange reviews on youwriteon.com by reviewing and rating fellow members opening chapters. For every review completed, your novel opening will be randomly assigned for review and rating by another member of the site in exchange. Entrants require a minimum of 4 reviews and ratings during August 2011 to enter the youwriteon.com story charts. On the 1st September 2011, the ten highest rated entrants from chapters uploaded between 17th July 2011 and 31st July 2011, as rated by youwriteon members, will be announced by youwriteon.com. The top three will be read by and receive an indepth critique of their opening chapters: either from Random House or Orion, and the other seven of the top ten highest rated opening chapters will be read by and receive a mini-review of their opening chapters from either Random House or Orion too. The critiques will take approximately 4 to 6 weeks for their Publishing House editors to complete.

4) The associated youwriteon.com site will assess the highest rated chapters on youwriteon from those uploaded in July 2011 which meet the criteria above for this competition. In the event of a tie for any of the top 10 places for this competition, youwriteon.com will randomly draw from those that tie to decide the final 10 winners. Participants accept by participating that the results as announced by youwriteon on the youwriteon.com site on 1st September 2011 is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

We wish all entrants every success!
